Testing opportunities are limited and provided on a case-by-case basis. As is standard, in order to be considered for testing, you must provide a photo.
The above details are intended as a guideline only. All aspects of testing arrangements are negotiable, but must be agreed upon prior to shooting. If you have a specific request such as shooting style, location, number of processed photos, desired delivery time-frame, etc, please be sure to indicate such.
All TFP shoots require a non-refundable deposit (equal to the TFP fee) at least 3 days prior to a scheduled shoot date. This fee can be paid for via cash, credit cards, eChecks, or Paypal.
Although all efforts are made to provide TFP work as quickly as possible, unless otherwise arranged, processing and delivery of TFP photos is done at will. However, delivery of proofs can typically be expected within 30 days from the shoot date. |

TFP (TIME-FOR-PRINTS)
TFP (trading "time-for-prints") is typically a free exchange of services between a model and a photographer. When considering whether you want to work for a photographer who provides his services for free, please remember, in most cases, that you get what you pay for.
A single outstanding print in your portfolio is better than 10 mediocre ones. Your portfolio is the most important part of promoting your modeling talent. A professional photographer is your greatest resource in getting the type of quality photos you want.
As a full-time professional (in an expensive profession), and someone whose only source of income is through the services he provides, Zero offers only limited "standard" TFP opportunities. However, he does provide some alternatives to standard time-for-prints. Please see below for more info.
FYI: Zero has written a note expressing his thoughts about TFP in the INFO section under Frequently Asked Questions.
FREE SHOOTS
As of July 2004, Zero has reduced the number of free shoots he provides to only 4 each month. People chosen for free shoots are selected from those who have contacted him directly via email or by registering for a free shoot by using this form. As is standard in the industry, in order to be considered for TFP/CD, you must provide a photo.
TFP FOR STOCK PHOTO & COMMERCIAL PURPOSES
As a way to provide a TFP opportunities to a broader range of models, Zero is now accepting TFP requests from models who are open to allowing their photos to be used for stock photo & commercial purposes.
As part of the arrangement, you may also get a profit-cut from any photos of you that are sold (a negotiable percentage). This is a great opportunity to not only get a "free" shoot with a professional photographer, but also a chance to actually make some money doing it.
Note: You will have specific say in the "terms of use" (ie. acceptable ways/places where your photos may be used) if your photo is sold. As a general mission, all photos sold will only be used for reputable purposes.
TESTING OPPORTUNITIES
Occasionally, Zero has specific needs for testing. This is an opportunity to work with Zero on a specific project or testing a certain set of conditions (testing new lighting or a new piece of equipment, for example). Nearly all testing opportunities are fun, creative, and yield eye-catching results.
Upcoming test opportunities, announcements, suggestions, and discussions take place in the forums.
PROVIDED WITH TFP:
Processing of additional hi-res images can be done for $5 each.
COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: What is processing?
A: Processing involves adjusting colors, brightness & contrast, cropping, removing noise, photo enhancements, and some degree of "photoshopping" (ie. "airbrushing", etc) to remove unwanted elements such as blemishes, etc. Processing can have a dramatic impact over the look of a photo. All processed photos all include a scaled down "web sized" version for internet use (for example, to include in an on-line modeling portfolio).
Q: Why don't you provide unlimited processing?
A: Each photo is processed to a very high standard by a professional computer graphics artist. The time necessary to perform these tasks can range from anywhere from a minimum of 5 mins to up to 30 minutes or more for each photo. In other words, at the bare minimum of taking only 5 mins to process each photo, it would take over 8 hours to process 100 photos.
Since I'm a professional and photography is my only source of income, I must limit the amount of time & services that I provide for free. Other photographers who provide numerous TFP opportunities or the majority of their work & services for free are likely not earning their income through photography and can therefore afford to spend their "free time" on non-paying endeavors.
I must also point out that it is important that you only use/select the best photos from you shoot. These photos are worth their weight in gold with regard to helping you build up your portfolio that helps you get jobs.
Q: Why don't you provide all the hi-res images from the shoot?
A: Images on the proofs CD are not intended to be used as "final" work. Although my model release states that models cannot use un-processed proofs in any official capacity (including printing them out to use in a portfolio), or post proofs online without permission, I've discovered that this honor system was repeatedly abused when I provided hi-res proofs. Therefore, I've regrettably had to limit the resolution of images on the proofs CD in order to discourage unauthorized use of the photos.
My work and professionalism is judged by what people see. When models use un-processed & unauthorized photos in a professional capacity, it can reflect poorly on me and it removes my ability to act as "quality control" on my work.
Q: Can I get photographs printed from my processed images?
A: Yes, you may choose to have photos made in a number of different sizes. Prints are not included with TFP.
